A Personal History of the 28th Portable Surgical Hospital
Major H. L. Riva, MC, Surgeon, Commanding Officer

September 1945, the war is over and everyone is looking forward to going home.  As he has done almost daily during his 17 months overseas, Maj. “Rip” Riva writes a letter home to his wife Betty.  Now however, censorship has been lifted and he can tell her more specific information about his time as commanding officer of the 28th Portable Surgical Hospital.  On the following page is that letter, with relevant images and information added by his son, Dr. Richard Riva.
