Artist James Milford Zornes was assigned to the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II as an official war artist.
For nearly three years, Zornes painted on location in China, Burma and India and turned most of the art over to the War Department art collection housed at the Pentagon.
He also had an art show in Bombay during the war.
Along with his paintings, he also sketched scenes he saw.
These photographs (presumably by Zornes) were taken in China near the Salween River, and include photos of a local family, the Salween River and World War II Bridge.
There were no captions to identify any of the subjects.
The photos are an interesting look at people and places in the Salween River area along the Burma Road.
